Dental Implants

What are dental implants?

Put simply, dental implants replace missing or damaged teeth and they look and feel just like the real thing. They stop bone loss, preserve healthy teeth and bring back the youthful appearance of your smile.

Why choose dental implants?

Compared to conventional implants and bridges, implants are permanent and if looked after correctly can last a lifetime. Despite the initial cost, there are five things to consider:

  1. They don’t have to be removed at night.
  2. Renewed confidence in your smile
  3. Eat all the foods you enjoy without worrying about damaged dentures
  4. They look, feel and work just like normal teeth
  5. They prevent bone loss associated with shrinking of the jaw through tooth loss.

How does the procedure work?

After an initial consultation to determine your requirements we will provide you with a full procedure plan which outlines what work will be carried out and how long the procedure is likely to take, including all costs involved.

Some modelling of the teeth and a CT scan may also be required to ensure the best results.

As the implant installment is an invasive procedure, most of our patients opt for a mild intravenous sedative which provide a relatively pain free experience.

It takes around one hour to install one implant, and multiple implants may be done in a single session.

We also use resorbable sutures (aka dissolving stitches) to reduce the number of visits required.

There will be some swelling initially but this will last roughly four to seven days, and we recommend a soft food diet during this time. After this it takes roughly three months for the implant to be accepted fully into the jawline.

At this point a small procedure is used to make sure the bone and gum line have grown around them correctly to keep them in place, and then impressions are taken ready for the final bridges, crowns and dentures to be made. Our technicians will also do colour matching analysis and take a measurement of your normal bite to ensure your new implants blend in perfectly with your own teeth.

Within two weeks once the final dentures, crowns and bridges are returned to us we fit them on the implants to fully restore your original, natural smile.
